FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – WATER HYGIENE MAINTENANCE

Does every site need water hygiene maintenance?
All sites will need some form of water hygiene maintenance carrying out following the risk assessment, however the regularity and complexity of these tasks will be site specific. As part of the Legionella Risk Assessment, you will be provided with a breakdown of the tasks needed for your site, and a Legionella Maintenance Log Book in order to keep a record that these tasks have been completed. These could be as basic as flushing little used outlets, or more complicated such as cleaning and disinfecting cold water storage tanks. An example copy of our Legionella Maintenance Log Book can be made available upon request.

Do I have to use a water hygiene company for all maintenance works?
No! A lot of the tasks will be able to be carried out by site staff, where they are deemed competent. For more complicated tasks, we would advise using a water hygiene specialist.

What temperatures should water be?
Cold water temperatures should be below 20oC after two minutes
Hot water temperatures should be above 50oC after one minute
Where a TMV is fitted, the mixed water temperature should be 41oC on Wash Hand Basins, Stainless Steel Sinks and Showers, 44oC on baths and 38oC on bidets.
